Leather Biker Wallet Prototype 1 & 2

Turns out the Smokey Mountains are “smokey” because they’re
This morning I asked Alaina if she could take a picture of the leather biker wallet prototype I’ve been working on. Actually, I asked if she’d take a picture of me wearing it. Really only needed three shots: wide, closeup, and side view. She took about 50 and had way too much fun.

This leather biker wallet has been a long time coming. I made the first prototype about 18 months 2 years ago:

But there were some design flaws– the snap was too cheap and didn’t hold up; the way I had the card slots laid out, they cracked the top of the credit cards; the grommet for the wallet chain or leather lanyard was in the wrong spot, and the strap with the snap was too far toward the top so after a while biker wallet prototype 1 didn’t close quite right.

So, last week I made one last Beauty and the Biker leather Biker Wallet prototype before I make the first batch of them for sale. I think it turned out pretty nicely.

The closure strap is not dyed. That’s what happens to good, vegetable tanned leather over time.leather biker wallet in natural veg-tanned - right side view

And it looks better every day. It gets better the more you use it. Kind of like life, the more you live it. Hunter S. Thompson said it best:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

Oh, and here are three of the shots Alaina took this morning. Wide shot:Leather biker wallet in back pocket 1

The production wallets will all be the fresh, natural, veg-tanned color. It’s up to you to give it character. They’ll also have an optional solid brass wallet chain or a leather wallet lanyard similar to (but better than) the one pictured here. Oh! And I’ll be posting the leather key keepers with solid brass snaps, too. I’ll update this post once they’re live in the store.
